Modesto police are looking for two women who stole a German shepherd from the backyard of an elderly man’s home.

The suspects entered the 76-year-old man’s yard in the 2000 block of Maid Mariane Lane about 5:30 p.m. Aug. 17 and led the dog out by his collar. Their images were caught on surveillance cameras.

The victim, who lives alone, told police he adopted the 6-year-old German shepherd named Thor for “protection and companionship.”

Anyone with information about the women pictured in the surveillance photos is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636. Callers can remain anonymous and are eligible for a cash reward.

The black dog in the photos was already with the women when they entered the backyard.
