Enochs High student booked after fight at school
A 16-year-old female student at Enochs High School has been booked at Stanislaus County juvenile hall, charged with assault causing great bodily injury, after a fight at the school Wednesday morning.
The father of the other girl in the fight, a 17-year-old, called police from a local hospital Wednesday evening to let them know of the incident. Information on the injuries and condition of the girl was not available, said Modesto Police Department spokeswoman Heather Graves, but she was conscious and able to speak with an officer. Police arrested the 16-year-old, who did not appear to need any medical treatment, Graves said
From what police have learned, Graves said, “The two (girls) had some history.”
A video of the fight was posted on Twitter and drew several comments, some suggesting that bullying was a factor. The video has since been removed.
Enochs Principal Deb Rowe gave this statement Wednesday evening: “Enochs High School promotes safety, responsibility and respect for all students and staff. Over the past four years, every student at Enochs has had the opportunity to attended a Point Break workshop where students learn to accept others’ individual differences. The Enochs Care Center supports students daily in a variety of ways through our Marriage and Family Therapist, nurse, counselors and Advanced Peer Tutors. The administrative and security staff at Enochs work diligently with students to guide all toward appropriate choices regarding behavior.”
Thursday afternoon, Modesto City Schools public information officer Becky Fortuna added: “We are extremely concerned and disheartened by the incident. We work very hard to provide a safe learning environment for our students. We promptly respond to all issues brought to our attention and provide a number of counseling and mediation resources for all students. Following a complete investigation, we will adhere to our Conduct Code when determining appropriate disciplinary measures.”
