Motorcyclist struck by car is badly hurt; hit-run driver is sought

Modesto police are looking for the driver of a car who fled the scene of a crash that left a motorcyclist in critical condition.

The collision occurred about 6:30 a.m. Friday in the intersection of Standiford Avenue and Sisk Road. Modesto Police Sgt. Aaron Tait said the car was traveling eastbound on Standiford but it’s unclear which direction the motorcyclist was going or who was at fault.

Motorists who saw the car hit the motorcyclist, 57-year-old David Woodman, stopped and went to his aid.

Woodman suffered life-threatening injuries and was being treated at a local hospital.

The driver of the involved vehicle fled the scene prior to the arrival of police and emergency personnel.

Witnesses who stayed at the scene believed the vehicle was either a gray or charcoal sedan or sport-utility vehicle. It likely has major front-end damage, including headlight and bumper damage.

Witnesses to the crash or anyone who might have information are asked to contact Sgt. Aaron Tait at (209) 595-6076 or at TaitA@modestopd.com. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward. Tipsters also can text information to Crime Stoppers by sending a text message to 274637. Type TIP704 along with the message.
