DUI checkpoint and patrols in Modesto this weekend

Police will look for drunken drivers this weekend, starting with a sobriety checkpoint Friday night at an undisclosed location in Modesto.

Officers also will look for drivers without valid licenses at the checkpoint, Modesto police said.

The weekend’s DUI enforcement continues Saturday night with saturation patrols in Modesto. The patrols are conducted by officers assigned solely to look for drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Modesto police said those arrested face jail time, loss of their licenses and increased insurance rates. The patrols and the checkpoint are funded by a grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety.
