Deputies seek public help on south Modesto homicide

Stanislaus County sheriff’s detectives are seeking the public’s assistance in the investigation of a homicide on Olivero Road in south Modesto on Aug. 19.

Just after 7 p.m. that Wednesday, deputies were called to the 300 block of Olivero on a report of shots fired and a man down in the roadway. When they arrived, they found a man, later identified as 43-year-old Jesus Chipres Linares, with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was found on the east side of the street.

Emergency medical personnel arrived and pronounced Linares dead at the scene. Homicide detectives attempted to locate witnesses to help them determine what led to Linares’ death. They have been unable to find anyone and are asking for the public’s help in identifying witnesses or leads.
