Salida man, 25, identified as victim in Highway 99 crash in Turlock
A 25-year-old man who was killed in a drunk driving-related crash early Sunday morning was identified as Salida resident Jakob Burns.
He was traveling south in the slow lane of Highway 99 through Turlock when he switched lanes into the middle lane and was hit by an Acura, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver of the Acura was allegedly drunk and suspected of racing with the Honda next to it in the fast lane, according to the California Highway Patrol. The Acura then hit the Honda.
Burns died from injuries sustained in the crash. A family member said he was on his way to work in Hilmar.
The driver of the Acura, 19-year-old Gerardo Ochoa of Ceres, was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, felony driving under the influence and reckless driving.
The driver of the Honda, Manuel Morales Jr., 19, of Ceres, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving.
