One dead, two in jail after crash on Highway 99 in Turlock

A man is dead and two others are in jail in connection with his death after a crash on Highway 99 early Sunday morning.

Preliminary investigation suggests the driver of an Acura and the driver of a Honda were racing south on the highway south of Main Street at about 4:15 a.m., California Highway Patrol Sgt. John O’Neil said.

The Honda was in the fast lane and the Acura was in the middle lane when a GMC in the slow lane moved into the middle lane and was struck by the Acura, O’Neil said. The Acura then hit the Honda, he said.

The driver of the GMC, a 25-year-old man, died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. His name and city of residence were not released Sunday.

The drivers of the Acura and Honda sustained minor injuries and were treated prior to their arrests.

The driver of the Acura, 19-year-old Gerardo Ochoa of Ceres, was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, felony driving under the influence and reckless driving.

The driver of the Honda, Manuel Morales Jr., 19, of Ceres, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving.
