Authorities have identified a woman killed in a Waterford homicide Friday morning and said she was shot during a marijuana theft.

According to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department, Teresa Unsiog, 42, of Rio Linda was visiting her boyfriend, who lives on South Becky Way.

“The homeowner was operating a large marijuana grow in his backyard of his residence and had 20-25 plants, including large plants ready for harvest,” officials said in a news release.

At about 4:30 a.m., the couple heard noises in the backyard. When they went to investigate, they saw several people stealing marijuana plants, authorities said.

When the couple confronted the suspects, the suspects fired several gunshots, striking Unsiog. They drove away from the area in several cars.

Deputies received a 911 call about the shooting at 4:45 a.m. and responded to the scene.

Unsiog was taken to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries.

Authorities served a search warrant at the residence. Investigators said the homeowner was cooperative.

In addition to the home, detectives had the area around the Assembly of God Church on Pasadena Avenue roped off and were examining a field behind the building.

Investigators ask anyone with possible information on this incident to contact Detective David Hickman at (209) 525-7042.
