Bag of ammo found hanging on Turlock school door

A custodian at Walter Brown Elementary School in Turlock found a bag of ammunition hanging on a door handle early Wednesday before students and staff arrived on campus, the Turlock Unified School District said Thursday.

“He immediately notified the Turlock Police Department who arrived to campus shortly thereafter to confiscate,” district Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Mike Trainor said in an email to The Bee. “The incident was reported and resolved by 7:20 a.m. ... We continue to work cooperatively with the Turlock Police Department on this isolated incident.”

Information was not provided by the district on the quantity of ammunition, whether it was a classroom door and whether any additional security precautions were taken upon the discovery. There was no word on a suspect or a motive, such as whether the act was thought to be a threat or a prank.

A Brown parent said Wednesday that her household was notified by an automated call.

The school is at 1400 Georgetown Ave.
