Authorities seized more than 500 pounds of illegal fireworks and three firearms during a search warrant operation at a Modesto home earlier this month, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office. Among the guns was a short-barreled rifle believed to have been illegally modified.

Investigators with the Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigation Unit assisted sheriff’s detectives June 17 in serving a search warrant at a home on Albion Way.

One suspect was arrested. The Sheriff’s Office did not immediately release the suspect’s identity or the specific charges filed.

Photos released by investigators showed dozens of boxes of aerial fireworks, artillery shells and other pyrotechnics stacked on tables with the firearms.

Authorities used the case to remind residents that only fireworks labeled “Safe and Sane” and bearing the seal of the state fire marshal are legal for sale and use in California.

Officials warned that selling, possessing or igniting illegal fireworks can lead to fines, jail time and increased fire danger, particularly as temperatures rise heading into the Fourth of July holiday.

The investigation remains ongoing.
