Modesto gang member indicted for allegedly possessing ammunition while felon
A 28-year-old Modesto gang member was indicted Thursday with being a felon in possession of ammunition, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Court records allege that Bendrelle Williams, a member of a Modesto street gang, was in possession of an assault-style rifle loaded with 50 rounds of ammunition.
Because of felony convictions, including for attempted robbery and possession of a firearm as a felon, Williams is prohibited from having ammunition.
The Modesto Police Department, with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, conducted the investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney George Biko.
Williams faces a maximum statutory penalty of 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, if convicted.
This case is part of the nationwide initiative Operation Take Back America. It aims to “repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime,” according to the press release.
