Arrests made from Modesto CHP cargo theft ring investigation. See what they found
CHP investigators with the Stanislaus County Auto Theft Taskforce made two recent arrests as part of an ongoing cargo auto theft investigation.
According to a Facebook post by Modesto CHP, a search warrant was served and numerous stolen Thermo King reefer refrigeration trailer units, firearms and stolen big rig trailers were found.
Alejandro Negrete, 34, and Victor Cardenas Reyes, 31, were booked into Stanislaus County Jail on numerous related felony charges, the post reports.
The warrant was served on Thursday, June 4, at a residence in Merced County, and the arrests were made in Stanislaus County, according to PIO Aaron Fey.
Several agencies assisted, including CHP Help Eliminate Auto Theft (HEAT), CHP Central Division Warrant Service Team, CHP Central Division Major Crimes Unit, CHP Coastal Division Investigation Unit, CHP Merced Area, CHP Los Banos Area and the Stanislaus County Sheriff Department.
StanCATT investigates more than auto theft, the release said. “Cargo theft impacts businesses, supply chains, and ultimately consumers. Thanks to the hard work of our officers and investigative personnel, stolen property was recovered and those responsible were taken into custody.”
The CHP asks that anyone who sees suspicious activity involving commercial vehicles, trailers or cargo report it to law enforcement.
