Modesto police arrested three drivers on suspicion of driving under the influence during a DUI checkpoint late last month, authorities said.

The checkpoint was conducted March 27 at Scenic Drive and Bodem Street from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., according to a social media post from the Modesto Police Department.

Officers contacted 920 vehicles during the operation.

In addition to the DUI arrests, 26 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle without a valid license or while driving with a suspended or revoked license, police said.

Four additional arrests were made on other criminal charges, including felony drug possession and felony evading.

Police said DUI checkpoint locations are selected based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The goal is to enhance public safety by deterring impaired driving and removing suspected impaired drivers from the road.

The Modesto Police Department reminded the public to plan ahead and designate a sober driver, noting that impaired driving remains a leading cause of serious injury and fatal crashes.

The department said its next DUI checkpoint is scheduled for April 24.
