Update: 11 pounds of fentanyl seized during CHP traffic stop on I-5 in Stanislaus
About 11 pounds of fentanyl powder was found hidden in a vehicle’s trunk during a traffic stop on Interstate 5 in Stanislaus County on Tuesday, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The value of the seized drugs is about $1.1 million, according to a Facebook post by the CHP Central Division. The traffic stop was made by a K-9 officer with the division.
Driver Rosas Parra, 41, was pulled over for a traffic infraction and found to be unlicensed, Central Division spokesperson Officer Hector Carias told The Modesto Bee on Friday morning.
The officer who conducted the traffic stop had his k-9 partner in his vehicle, but the dog was not involved. The officer asked and was given permission by Parra to search the vehicle.
Upon discovery of the hidden fentanyl, Parra was taken into custody without incident and booked on felony charges related to possession for sale and transportation of fentanyl.
As a matter of officer safety, the post omitted the time of day, and where along I-5, the arrest was made, Carias noted.
