Suspect arrested in Napa after shooting in Modesto that left one dead

A suspect was arrested Feb. 12 for allegedly killing a 53-year-old man in Modesto .

Around 1 a.m. Feb. 9, Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a shooting in the 2900 block of Farrar Avenue, east of the Modesto Airport.

A man was found suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene despite lifesaving measures attempted by emergency medical personnel. The man’s identity will be released by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office after next-of-kin notification.

On Feb. 12, 33-year-old Alexander Tanner of Modesto was arrested in Napa by detectives from the Sheriff’s Office’s Major Crimes Unit and Special Investigations Unit.

Tanner, who has prior arrests for carrying a loaded stolen firearm, robbery, possession of narcotics and evading law enforcement, was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center. He is being charged with murder and being held without bail.
