Patterson man found guilty in Modesto domestic violence trial

A Patterson man with a history of violent offenses was convicted by a Stanislaus County jury last month of felony domestic violence stemming from a 2025 assault in Modesto, court records show.

Daniel Ernesto Ramirez, 33, was found guilty of battery of an intimate partner causing a traumatic injury. He faces up to nine years in state prison when sentenced, according to the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office.

The conviction stems from a Sept. 5 incident involving a woman with whom Ramirez had a dating relationship.

According to court filings and testimony, the woman had ended the relationship recently and went to Ramirez’s residence to collect money she said he owed her.

Prosecutors said an argument escalated when Ramirez punched the woman on the right side of her face. Authorities said Ramirez then grabbed her phone and struck her with it, causing a roughly one-inch laceration to her eyebrow.

Responding Modesto police officers documented visible injuries, including swelling and bleeding, according to court records.

The woman later entered her vehicle and called law enforcement. Officers attempted to contact Ramirez at his residence but were unable to reach him and later obtained an arrest warrant, records show.

Jury trial timeline

The case was tried over four days before Judge Dawna Reeves in Stanislaus County Superior Court.

Jurors heard testimony from the victim and multiple law enforcement witnesses, including the investigating officer, who described responding to the scene and observing injuries.

Before trial, the court ruled on multiple evidentiary motions. The judge allowed prosecutors to introduce expert testimony on intimate partner violence patterns but denied a defense request to introduce evidence about the victim’s immigration status as a possible motive to fabricate allegations.

The court did allow the defense to present evidence that the victim may have been involved in a physical altercation hours before meeting Ramirez.

Closing arguments were delivered Jan. 29, according to court records. Jurors began deliberations shortly before noon and returned with a guilty verdict later that afternoon.

The court scheduled additional proceedings to address prior convictions and aggravating factors that could affect Ramirez’s sentence.

Prior convictions for threats, violence

Prosecutors said Ramirez is subject to California’s Three Strikes law.

Court records show Ramirez was convicted in April 2024 of making criminal threats, which qualifies as a strike offense. Records also show Ramirez had been convicted of felony domestic violence in June 2025 and was on probation at the time of the Modesto assault.

Prosecutors have cited additional aggravating circumstances, including prior prison time and unsatisfactory performance on probation or parole.

Ramirez is scheduled for sentencing March 18 at 8:30 a.m. in Department 1 of Stanislaus County Superior Court.
