Deputies break up 90-mph street race in Patterson. Two cited, cars impounded
The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office cited two drivers and impounded their vehicles after deputies responded to a report of an illegal street race in Patterson this week.
Deputies were alerted to possible racing activity near Ward Avenue and Sperry Avenue — an area the sheriff’s office says has a history of speed contests on private property. Deputy Garcia responded and saw two vehicles racing side by side at speeds exceeding 90 mph while a large crowd watched, according to the sheriff’s office.
Garcia stopped both vehicles and cited the drivers for engaging in a speed contest. Both admitted to taking part in the race, the sheriff’s office said. Their vehicles were seized and impounded.
The agency said unlawful racing is reckless and poses serious risks to participants and bystanders. The sheriff’s office reiterated its zero-tolerance enforcement stance and encouraged residents to report any suspected street racing or sideshow activity.
“Community cooperation is essential to preventing injuries, property damage, and fatalities linked to these illegal events,” the sheriff’s office said.
