Modesto Police Department

Loaded firearms, two explosive devices and ammunition were seized from a felon’s house across the street from Somerset Middle School last week, Modesto police reported.

The Modesto Police Department Narcotics Enforcement Team served a search warrant Oct. 20 on a home on the 1000 block of Floyd Ave.

The team, which was assisting a Stanislaus County Probation Department investigation, discovered an arsenal that included a fully automatic “Uzi-style machine gun” with a silencer.

The subject of the investigation, Joshua Reyes,49, was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County jail. He faces charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, a felon in possession of ammunition, possession of an assault weapon, possession of a silencer and possession of an explosive device, with an enhancement for being near a public school. His bail was set at $1 million.

According to a press release, the investigation was possible through a multi-agency effort, which included support from the Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigation Unit and Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office.
