Four arrested in Modesto after man beaten and nearly kidnapped, deputies say

Four suspects were arrested in Modesto earlier this month after deputies say they attacked and tried to kidnap a man outside his home, threatening to kill him before fleeing the scene.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office said the assault happened around 5:30 p.m. Oct. 14 in the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue. Deputies responded after receiving a report of a man being beaten by multiple people.

While deputies were on the way, they learned the suspects had fled in separate vehicles. The department’s Air Support Unit helped locate those vehicles and guided ground units to their locations, leading to the suspects’ arrests, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies later learned the victim had been working on a project outside his home when several people approached and began attacking him. During the assault, the suspects allegedly dragged the victim toward a vehicle while threatening to kill him.

The victim told deputies he recognized one of the attackers from a prior dispute. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to recover.

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit assisted with the case. The four suspects were booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on multiple felony charges, including kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, conspiracy, and home invasion, according to the post.

Bail amounts for the suspects range from $650,000 to $1 million.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office at (209) 525-7114 or submit an anonymous tip to Stanislaus Area Crime Stoppers at 866-602-7463.
