Three people killed in head-on crash on Highway 120 east of Oakdale

Three people died in a fiery head-on collision Saturday on Highway 120 east of Oakdale.

Authorities have not released the names of the people killed in the crash, which occurred on the divided highway near Tulloch Dam Road in Tuolumne County.

At about 4 p.m., a woman driving a Honda CRV was going the wrong way in the eastbound fast lane when it collided with a Toyota Rav 4 traveling east in the same lane. The collision sent the Toyota careening to the right shoulder of the roadway, where it became engulfed in flames, CHP said.

The Honda came to rest in the center median.

The female driver and a passenger in the Toyota were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda also was killed. Firefighters responded to battle a grass fire sparked by the crash. The eastbound lanes were closed for four hours.

The collision is under investigation.
