Modesto police videos show theft arrests, including of man also wanted in homicide

The Modesto Police Department released on its Facebook page this week video footage from two separate high-profile arrests made in late September.

The first was the Sept. 26 arrest of two men, Angel Cabrera, 18, and Christian DiazSilva, 19, on suspicion of stealing from the Target on Sisk Road. The arrest led to the discovery that Cabrera is a suspect in a double homicide that occurred in Salinas on Sept. 19. He has since been taken into custody by the Salinas Police Department.

The suspects arrested Sept. 26 were caught by Target’s loss-prevention personnel concealing merchandise on their person and leaving the store without paying. Target notified police, who took both men into custody in the store’s parking lot and returned the stolen merchandise.

DiazSilva is charged with burglary and was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center. Cabrera is charged with murder, attempted murder, participating in a criminal street gang, promoting street gang activity and conspiracy to commit felony. He was allegedly the getaway driver for the Sept. 19 double homicide. Both are residents of Salinas.

The second video posted by the MPD concerns an armed robbery Sept. 22 of a person in the parking lot of the True Value hardware store on Coffee Road. Three suspects fled in a vehicle and were apprehended after police patrol units, the real-time crime center and the county Sheriff’s Department’s Air 101 coordinated to apprehend Elizar Flores, 19, of Fresno, Lawdell Jones, 20, of Fresno, and Dominique Diaz, 20, of Modesto.

All three face charges of attempted carjacking, attempted robbery, possession of an assault weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon. Flores and Diaz face an additional charge of assault with a firearm.
