Struck by fleeing suspect’s car, Modesto police officer fires weapon

Modesto Police Department

A Modesto police officer was struck by a suspect’s vehicle early Friday, which led to the officer firing as it fled.

At around 1 a.m., the Modesto Police Department responded to a report of a shooting on the 1700 block of Boulder Avenue near Hatch Road.

Upon arrival, the officer located a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle and attempted to make contact with the occupant.

The suspect fled, striking the officer, who then fired at the vehicle. The suspect left the scene and was later found, arrested, and charged with multiple felonies.

The officer was taken to a local hospital, treated and released. A Police Department news release does not identify the officer or the suspect, and it does not indicate the suspect was injured.

The incident is still under investigation, and no additional information is available at this time.

This is a developing story.
