Alleged Modesto bank robber arrested in Merced. Here’s what we know
The Merced County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man after he allegedly tried to rob a bank in Hilmar on Thursday. The man also reportedly robbed a bank in Modesto on Monday.
At about 10:45 a.m. Thursday, Merced County deputies responded to a silent alarm for a robbery in progress at the Westamerica Bank on the 8000 block of Lander Avenue. When they got there, they found Randy Casey, 58, waiting outside the bank, according to a MCSO Facebook post.
Casey allegedly handed a note to the teller that demanded money and stated that he had a bomb. No bomb or bomb materials were found on his person, according to MCSO. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and falsely reporting a bomb. The MCSO post also stated he had an outstanding warrant out of Modesto for robbery.
On Monday, CBS-13 Sacramento reported that Oak Valley Community Bank in downtown Modesto was robbed. The news report stated that a man allegedly walked into the bank, handed the teller a note that demanded cash and stated he had a bomb. The man reportedly walked out of the bank with an undisclosed amount of money.
The report went on to state that the same man tried to do the same thing at BMO Bank on H Street, but was unsuccessful.
On Friday afternoon, the Modesto Police Department confirmed Casey was the suspect in the Modesto robbery and attempted robbery.
