One person killed in Wednesday night shooting on Leon Avenue in Modesto
One person was killed in a shooting Wednesday evening on Leon Avenue in Modesto, authorities said.
Deputies were dispatched at 6:42 p.m. to a report of a person shot in the 600 block of Leon, according to Sgt. Erich Layton of the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim was taken to a local hospital and was pronounced dead, the Sheriff’s Office confirmed. The agency’s Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene and took over the investigation.
At the time deputies arrived, no suspects were in custody. Officials have not released the victim’s identity, pending notification of family members.
Additional information, including details about the circumstances of the shooting and a possible motive, was not immediately available Wednesday. Detectives were working to gather evidence and interview witnesses.
