Police: Man asked to be booked at Modesto jail

A man who went to the downtown jail and demanded he be arrested was granted his request early Wednesday morning.

Oscar Garcia, 32, was allegedly intoxicated when he went into the lobby of the jail on H Street insisting to be booked so he could see his brother who apparently is incarcerated there, said Modesto Police Department spokeswoman Heather Graves.

The man also threatened to break windows in the lobby.

Modesto Police arrived at the lobby around 1:45 a.m. and apprehended Garcia. They searched him and found he was in possession of prescription drugs, Graves said.

Garcia was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance and being drunk in public.

He was booked into the county jail where his brother is housed. It’s unknown, however, if Garcia has been able to see him.
