The woman who died after being struck by a driver while crossing Yosemite Boulevard in Modesto on Sunday morning has been identified by the county coroner as a Washington state resident.

Police responded at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday to a report of a pedestrian down on Yosemite near Severin Avenue, according to a news release. It said the woman died after being struck by a driver who left the scene of the collision and later was arrested.

The pedestrian, identified as Bailey Bell, 23, of Tacoma, was found unresponsive. CPR was initiated, and Bell was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where she later died.

The preliminary investigation found Bell was crossing the road when she was struck by a Toyota traveling west on Yosemite.
