Jamestown resident finds man at his home wearing his clothes in suspected burglary
A Jamestown resident came home Monday morning to find a burglary in progress and soon came face to face with a man dressed in the homeowner’s clothing, authorities said.
The resident held the man at gunpoint until Tuolumne County sheriff’s deputies arrived. The suspect, 52-year-old Scott Brian Oliver of Jamestown, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and vandalism.
When the homeowner returned to his home in the 15000 block of Jamestown Road about 11 a.m., he saw a black duffel bag outside, containing items from the home. Inside the house, he saw someone had turned on lights and a ceiling fan.
At this point, a contractor arrived to do some scheduled work and entered the residence with the homeowner. Several paintings, a chain saw and other items were missing.
Looking around, the men saw Oliver in the driveway, authorities said. The contractor said Oliver was not an employee, and the homeowner noticed that Oliver was wearing his clothing. Armed with a handgun, the resident confronted Oliver.
Oliver was booked into the Tuolumne County jail and as of Tuesday morning was still in custody pending arraignment in court.
