Modesto man arrested in shooting

A 20-year-old Modesto man was arrested Thursday in the shooting of a man in west Modesto late Wednesday afternoon.

Modesto police had been looking for 20-year-old Rajon Alexander, and officers with the Street Gang Unit found him walking in the area of Robertson Road and Marseille Lane.

Officers confronted Alexander, who fled, said Modesto Police Department spokeswoman Heather Graves. He was taken into custody at an apartment complex on Marseille. Officers found him in possession of a large fixed-blade knife and methamphetamine, Graves said.

Wednesday’s shooting occurred on the 900 block of Middlecoff Avenue, outside the victim’s home. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital with wounds that were not life-threatening.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation. The gun has not been recovered, Graves said Friday.

Alexander remained in custody at the Stanislaus County jail Friday morning, with bail set in excess of $500,000. He faces charges of attempted murder, carrying a concealed knife, resisting arrest, possession of methamphetamine and probation violation.
