Modestan arrested in hit-and-run crashes; DUI suspected
A 25-year-old Modesto man was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run and DUI on Wednesday night after striking vehicles at three locations, police said.
The first crash was about 7:30 p.m. on Mitchell Road near Tenaya Drive, said Modesto Police Department spokeswomen Heather Graves, when a parked car was struck.
The driver continued north on Mitchell, which becomes El Vista Avenue on the north side of Yosemite Boulevard. At El Vista and Encina avenues, he is accused of striking a car with two occupants, who suffered minor injuries, Graves said.
A witness at that crash got a photo of the license plate of a gold Honda CR-V and provided that information to police. When officers got to the scene, the hit-and-run driver was gone, Graves said.
The driver is believed to have headed east on Encina, where another parked vehicle was struck at Encina and Colfax avenues. The driver then kept going, Graves said.
Based on the license plate information, officers called up the registration and determined the residence of the suspected driver. They were on their way to that location when they spotted the vehicle shortly before 8 p.m. at Claus Road and Briggsmore Avenue, Graves said.
Tayler Inderbitzen was taken into custody at the scene, she said. He was no longer in custody Thursday afternoon, according to jail records.
