Suspect sought in MJC West Campus sexual assault, bulletin tells students

A suspect is being sought in the sexual assault of a female student Feb. 5 on the Modesto Junior College West Campus, according to a “timely warning bulletin” emailed to students Friday afternoon.

The bulletin says the incident was reported to the Campus Safety Office at 3 p.m. March 12. “The student’s legal guardian was contacted, and the matter was referred to the Modesto Police Department,” it says. “The incident is currently under active investigation.”

The assault occurred in a parking lot at about 8 a.m., and the suspect was described as approximately 5 feet, 7 inches tall, with a heavy build. He was carrying a Mickey Mouse backpack.

The bulletin asks that anyone who has information about the crime or knows someone matching the suspect’s description contact Campus Safety immediately at 209-575-6351 or email mjccampussafety@yosemite.edu.

The notice to students also urges them to always be alert and aware of their surroundings, avoid poorly lighted or deserted areas when walking at night, and call Campus Safety for evening escorts.
