Ceres police seek help ID’ing suspects in stabbing of 19-year-old. Victim expected to recover

A 19-year-old man is expected to fully recover after being stabbed multiple times, including in the abdomen, on Monday night, Ceres police report.

After escaping the scene of the attack, the victim and friends spotted a Stanislaus County deputy sheriff on the 1400 block of Crows Landing Road shortly before 10 p.m. and flagged him down for help. The victim was treated and then taken to a hospital for further care.

Ceres police officers dispatched to Crows Landing Road learned that the victim and his friends had visited a smoke shop near Hatch Road and Herndon Avenue, where they encountered a group of people outside. There was a brief exchange before the victim and his companions left and drove about a half mile northeast to the 1300 block of Richland Avenue.

There, the victim said he got out of the vehicle and was confronted by several people he recognized from the earlier encounter at the smoke shop. The group attacked him, stabbing him multiple times before he managed to get back into the vehicle, he reported.

Ceres officers responded to the Richland Avenue area, where they found the crime scene and collected evidence.

The Ceres Police Department’s Detective Bureau has taken over the investigation. No suspects have been identified and the motive for the attack is still under investigation, a CPD news release Wednesday afternoon says.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Detective Berlier at 209 538-5616. Tips also can be made to Stanislaus Area Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
