Ceres man charged with possessing child pornography

A Ceres man was arraigned in federal court on Tuesday on charges of possessing child pornography, a crime for which he was previously convicted in Tuolumne County in 2002.

Robert Correll, 41, pleaded not guilty to receiving material involving the sexual exploitation of minors and possession of material involving the sexual exploitation of minors.

In June, detectives from the Ceres Police Department, working as members of the Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force, conducted an Internet Crimes Against Children investigation pertaining to child sexual exploitation.

Correll was found to be in possession of more than 10,000 images of child pornography and more than 5,000 video clips of child pornography. The forensic investigation is ongoing, according to a news release from Ceres police.

Each offense with which Correll is charged comes with a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
