During Modesto traffic stop, K-9 officer detects drugs. Here’s what & how much was seized
A recent traffic stop resulted in the seizure of 14 pounds of fentanyl pills and 2 pounds of heroin, the Modesto Police Department reported Tuesday.
On Friday, an officer pulled over a driver for multiple traffic violations, according to an MPD Facebook post. While at the stop, the officer’s K-9 partner alerted him to the presence of narcotics in the car.
The officer discovered two pounds of heroin and 14 pounds of fentanyl pills from the 49-year-old driver, Jose Tafolla-Gutierrez of Modesto.
Tafolla-Gutierrez was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges related to narcotics trafficking and distribution.
Sgt. John Carrico, who supervises the Modesto Police Department K-9 Unit, stressed on social media the importance of these highly trained dogs.
“Our K-9 handlers and their partners dedicate hours to monthly training to ensure they perform at the highest level our community expects,” Carrico said. “This is just one example of how a police K-9 plays a crucial role in keeping these deadly substances — and those who seek to distribute them — off our streets and out of our community.”
