Man injured in central Modesto car-jacking

A man suffered injuries during a car-jacking at Sam’s Food City Shopping Center in central Modesto early Friday night.

Police were called to the scene in the 1100 block of Carver Road after a report that a man had been shot in the head and his car stolen, according to Lt. Ivan Valencia of the Modesto Police Department.

When they arrived, they found the victim, who had suffered an undisclosed injury during the incident and thought he had heard a gunshot. There was no evidence, however, that a gun had been fired, Valencia said.

The victim had just been leaving a store when he was approached by a man and assaulted. The suspect, described as thinly-built and in his 30s, then stole the victim’s pickup.

He, and possibly an accomplice in a four-door Honda sports utility vehicle, were last seen heading south on Carver Road.
