Sexual assault reported at Sonora homeless shelter
Investigators on Wednesday night arrested a 40-year-old man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman at a homeless shelter.
Anthony Moore, originally from Richmond, was booked at the Tuolumne County Jail on charges of forced oral copulation, inflicting corporal injury and misdemeanor battery, according to a Sonora police news release. The suspect and the alleged victim were both staying at the homeless shelter.
The alleged assault was reported about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, when a sheriff’s deputy was flagged down outside of the homeless shelter on South Washington Street in Sonora. The deputy was told that a sexual assault had occurred at the shelter.
Sonora police officials were notified and went to the shelter to investigate.
Police said the 33-year-old woman was forced by Moore to perform oral sex on him. Moore was taken into custody without further incident.
