CHP seeks to identify driver, vehicle in fatal hit-and-run south of downtown Modesto
A woman was found dead of an apparent hit-and-run crash late Friday morning on Highway 99 just south of downtown Modesto, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The CHP was notified at about 11:30 a.m. of a vehicle-vs-pedestrian collision on northbound 99 south of Sierra Drive.
Responding emergency personnel found the woman lying within the center median against a metal guardrail and vegetation. She was pronounced dead at the scene and appeared to have been struck by a motor vehicle, a CHP news release said.
The vehicle was not at the scene and had not been identified as of Friday afternoon. The time of collision has not been determined.
The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman, but her name is being withheld pending notification of family.
Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call CHP Officer Aaron Norseen at 209-545-7440.
