Modesto man convicted on child sex abuse charges after multi-agency investigation
A Modesto man has been convicted of sexual abuse of a child younger than 14, who was exploited for nearly four years.
Stanislaus Superior Court Judge Jeff Mangar accepted a guilty plea from Brian Keith Ollar, 52, on Aug. 7. Ollar could be sentenced to 12 years in prison and required to register as a sex offender.
In February, the FBI informed Stanislaus County authorities that an investigation had discovered the sale of sexually explicit images of a child on the so-called dark web, a portion of the Internet accessible only through special software. Investigators use artificial intelligence software to more effectively search for images of abuse.
According to a District Attorney’s Office post on Facebook, investigative techniques revealed the sexual images of the girl were taken at a home in Newman. The abuse began when the child was 7 years old, and the assaults were committed between Oct. 5, 2003, and Oct. 3, 2007, the DA’s Office said.
The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office investigated and located the now-adult victim, who confirmed she was the child in the images. Ollar was arrested and prosecuted on felony sex abuse charges.
Ollar’s conviction is a strike under the “Three Strikes Law” in California. Agencies involved in the investigation included the FBI and special victims units of the Sheriff’s and District Attorneys offices.
