Homeless woman arrested on suspicion of arson in Tuolumne River Regional Park in Modesto
A woman was taken into custody on suspicion of arson for a fire started Tuesday night at Tuolumne River Regional Park, according to the Modesto Police Department.
Modesto police and fire personnel responded to the brush fire at around 9 p.m. Karleen Keefer, 46, was arrested at the scene with a torch lighter in her possession.
Keefer, identified as a homeless woman by police, admitted to starting the fire, though the motive was not known. No injuries or damage to structures in the area were reported.
Bail is set at $100,000 and Keefer is set appear in court on Thursday.
