Elderly victim in Modesto robbery remains hospitalized
A 94-year-old man who encountered robbers in his central Modesto home over the weekend remained hospitalized Monday.
The man remained listed in serious but stable condition at a local hospital, according to Modesto police. He suffered a broken nose, facial fracture and skin tearing.
Investigators on Monday continued looking for two suspects who carried out the home-invasion robbery at the elderly man’s home in the 1400 block of Gary Lane, just north of Orangeburg Avenue.
About 10:30 p.m. Friday, officers responded to a report of a robbery at the home. The man’s 85-year-old wife had called 911, telling dispatchers she had just been robbed.
The wife told police she was sitting in the living room, when she saw a suspect enter through the kitchen. She said the suspect walked to the back of the home briefly before leaving through a side door with a second suspect.
Police said the wife then began looking for her husband, who had walked into the kitchen before the suspects entered their home. She found him lying on the ground in the breezeway outside. Police said the husband’s head was bleeding.
Police described one of the robbers as possibly a woman wearing a mask or hood covering her face. Both suspects were wearing dark clothing. Investigators did not have any further description for the other robber.
