The second annual Dog Walker Watch gathering will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Modesto Dog Park.

The event educates dog owners on how to spot suspicious activity and effectively observe and report crime while out walking their pets. It’s also an opportunity to network with other residents.

At last year’s event, residents were reminded what an asset their familiarity with their neighborhoods is. People learn the faces and vehicles of their neighbors, said Capt. Rick Armendariz. They recognize suspicious things like a car that’s unfamiliar or activity at a home when there usually is no one there.

When people don’t have their eyes glued to their smartphones, or earbuds in both ears playing music, they are a valuable resource in crime prevention, he said.

The dog park is at Enslen and Morris avenues. Free hot dogs will be served while they last.
