Gang member taken into custody by Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies
A documented member of the Norteño gang is behind bars after Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies and SWAT team members served a warrant Thursday morning.
Tyre Cheeseboro, 20, of Empire was taken into custody about 15 minutes after authorities arrived at a residence at the corner of Cali Drive and McCoy Avenue, according to Detective Cory Brown.
Cheeseboro tried to flee by climbing a fence at the house, but went to the ground after being confronted by deputies. He was in possession of a bag that contained a semiautomatic handgun.
Among the charges Cheeseboro will face are assault with a deadly weapon and participating in a criminal street gang. Brown said Cheeseboro is a member of the “Empire Boyz” street gang.
Cheeseboro was involved in a shooting with a rival gang member at Family Dollar in Empire on April 14. He also threatened a man at gunpoint on July 3, Brown said.
After being apprehended Thursday, Cheeseboro was taken to the Stanislaus County Jail. His bail will exceed $475,000, Brown said.
At least three canine units, 10 deputies and the SWAT team were involved in Thursday morning’s incident.
