Modesto man hospitalized after deadly weapon assault. Suspect booked in county jail

A Modesto man was taken to the hospital after he was assaulted early Saturday by a person armed with a deadly weapon, police said.

Modesto police responded just before 1 a.m. to the area of Broadway and Alamo avenues. The adult male victim told officers a man with a machete had attacked him.

The victim was taken to an area hospital. He was treated for injuries and is expected to live, police said.

Officers searching the neighborhood around Broadway and Alamo found the suspect, who was still armed with a machete, police said.

Anceto Maldonado, 62, was arrested and booked in Stanislaus County jail, with bail set at $50,000. He faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.
