Stanislaus sheriff’s deputy arrested on suspicion of sexual relationship with an inmate

Breaking news

A Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office custodial deputy was arrested Monday on suspicion of having a sexual relationship with an inmate.

Johnathan McClure, 45, was booked Monday afternoon on one count of engaging in sexual activity with a consenting adult who is confined in a detention facility, according to booking records. He has since posted bond on a $50,000 bail.

Lt. Tom Letras said officials on Aug. 12 learned of a ”suspected sexual relationship” between McClure and a female inmate. That same day, a criminal and internal affairs investigation was launched and McClure’s home was searched. He was immediately put on paid administrative leave and his access to Sheriff’s Office facilities was revoked, Letras said.

Both the criminal and internal affairs investigation are ongoing and McClure, a 22-year employee, remained on leave Tuesday.

No information was released about the inmate or the time frame of the illegal alleged relationship.

Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to contact detective M. Wyatt at 209-525-7091.
