Victim found with multiple gunshot wounds off Highway 99 Hatch exit in Ceres

A person was shot multiple times near the Hatch Road exit of Highway 99 Friday night in Ceres, according to a report from the Modesto Fire Department.

Firefighters and other emergency personnel were called at about 8:40 p.m. Friday to the Hatch Road exit for a report of a person shot. Emergency workers found a victim in a vehicle suffering from multiple gunshots at Hatch Road and Herndon Avenue, the start of the city’s main shopping district.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, was tended to by medical crews and then transported by ambulance to a local hospital. The victim’s injuries were listed as “critical,” according to the fire department release. According to online posts, the shooting caused traffic to be stopped in the area for a couple of hours as law enforcement officials investigated.

California Highway Patrol did not have additional information on the shooting. According to Modesto Fire, the Ceres Police Department is investigating, but representatives did not respond Saturday to requests for more information.
