Three arrested in north Modesto shooting after pursuit
Three men authorities said were speeding away from the scene of a shooting nearly ran into a Modesto police sergeant’s patrol car early Monday.
The sergeant was on McHenry Avenue when the suspects ran a red light going east on Rumble Road through the intersection, police spokeswoman Heather Graves said.
The sergeant turned on his lights and sirens and pursued the car east until it ran into a light pole at Coffee Road.
He detained all three suspects, then searched the car and found two handguns and a shotgun, Graves said.
Around the same time, dispatchers received a report of a shooting in the 1800 block of Glouster Way, just north of Rumble.
Graves said the driver of the car, Tristan Petersen, 33, was identified as the shooter.
Police said he went to the house because he believed a man who lives there, but was not home at the time, was having an affair with his wife.
The victims told police Petersen knocked on their door and demanded the man come out. When he didn’t, Peterson opened fire, police said.
Graves said there were at least four people inside the home, including two children. Shell casings were found outside the house, and a spent round was located in the bedroom of a 15-year-old boy.
Petersen and the two men in the car with him – Moises Orozco, 27, and Oscar Martinez, 28 – were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and conspiracy. Petersen also was arrested on suspicion of evading, and Orozco and Martinez face charges of being felons in possession of firearms.
