Turlock resident dies from gunshot wounds; pot found at home
A 22-year-old Turlock man died after being shot Thursday night outside a home in the 1100 block of Baywood Lane.
At about 11:40 p.m., police officers received calls reporting a drive-by shooting. They arrived on scene to find one person shot. The victim, Marcus Culebro, was transported to an area hospital, where he died.
Preliminary investigation indicates that unknown subjects went to the home, where they beat and tied up a resident, according to a news release from Turlock police Capt. Nino Amirfar. As the people were leaving, he said, the homeowner and several friends were returning from a trip to a store. Culebro was shot as he was exiting his car, and the subjects fled the scene.
Inside the home, investigators found more than 190 marijuana plants, averaging 31/2 feet in height. They did not know Friday morning if the marijuana grow was related to the killing, Amirfar said.
Investigators are trying to get descriptions of suspects and information on how they fled the scene, the captain said. Anyone with information about the crime is urged to call Detective Brandon Bertram at 209-664-7323.
The Turlock Police Department participates in the Crime Stoppers Program. Anonymous tips can be left by calling Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636.
