A dispute that started at the bar of the Applebee’s restaurant in Riverbank on Thursday night ended in a deadly shooting in the parking lot, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office.
The shooting occurred around 9:45 p.m. when the restaurant, and the Crossroads Shopping Center in which it is located, was full of people who had just attended a high school graduation ceremony, according to a press release.
Authorities say the victim and the suspect began arguing inside the bar. Detectives are still trying to determine whether the suspect and victim knew each other, the nature of the dispute and how it escalated into a shooting.
Jonathan Alexander Ray, 28, is accused of shooting 40-year-old Riverbank resident Salvador Ramos multiple times, according to the press release.
Ramos was taken by an ambulance to a local hospital and underwent surgery but later succumbed to his injuries.
Ray fled the area in a vehicle which was quickly spotted by the Sheriff’s Office helicopter near Oakdale and Sylvan roads. A high-risk stop was conducted and Ray was taken into custody without incident. A firearm was located in his possession, according to the release.
He was arrested on suspicion of murder.
