UPDATE: Victim in Empire homicide identified by Stanislaus Sheriff’s Office

A man who was fatally shot in Empire on Sunday night has been identified by the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting occurred around 8:20 p.m. in the 100 block of C Street. According to radio traffic of the incident, the victim was shot multiple times.

The man, identified as 36-year-old Christopher Anstine of Empire, died at the scene despite lifesaving efforts by first responders.

No information has been released about a possible suspect or motive in the shooting.

According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, the shooting does not appear to be related to a double stabbing earlier in the day about a mile away.

At about 10:30 a.m., two men suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries in a stabbing incident in the 5200 block of South Avenue. Both underwent surgery at separate local area hospitals, according to the press release.

Deputies later arrested 26-year-old Ricardo Rivera on suspicion of two counts of assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the stabbings.
