Manteca shooting suspect kills himself when police try to arrest him
A man wanted in connection with a shooting at a Manteca sports complex died by suicide Tuesday when detectives tried to arrest him, police said.
Manteca police detectives searched for 42-year-old Corey Croslow of Stockton after he allegedly shot someone around 3 p.m. in the Big League Dreams parking lot.
They believed he was “armed and dangerous” because the shooting weapon was also missing.
Police obtained a warrant Monday for Croslow’s arrest but could not locate him until dispatch received a tip around 9 a.m. Tuesday that he was possibly in northeast Stockton around East Hammer Lane and Maranatha Drive.
Manteca police began arriving around 9:30 a.m. to set up a perimeter. Croslow was found lying in a nearby orchard, and detectives attempted to convince him to surrender.
Instead however, Croslow stood up and shot himself within view of the detectives, police said. No MPD personnel fired a weapon.
Detectives are still investigating the shooting, which MPD classified in its release as an attempted murder. The victim remained in critical condition at a local hospital as of Monday evening, police previously said.
Anyone with information should contact Detective Morrison at 209-456-8212.
