Update: Modesto police looking for two pickups in hit-and-run that killed bicyclist

A hit-and-run crash Saturday night on Lakewood Avenue between Briggsmore and Orangeburg avenues killed a bicyclist, Modesto police report.

The collision was about 9:15 p.m., Police Department spokeswoman Sharon Bear said Sunday morning.

Officers arrived on scene to find the cyclist, 62-year-old Kenneth Earl Hutt of Modesto, with major injuries. Residents and officers performed lifesaving measures but Hutt did not survive.

Witnesses said there may have been two vehicles involved in the collision with Hutt. The first is an older model red Toyota pickup, the second a mid-2000s white Chevrolet Silverado pickup.

Both trucks appear to have been heading south on Lakewood when the crash occurred, the Police Department wrote in a post on its Facebook page Sunday morning. Both reportedly turned east onto Orangeburg afterward. One or both of the pickups may have substantial front-end damage, including to the windshield.

Officer Randy Raduechel is seeking witnesses to the collision and area residents who might have doorbell cameras or surveillance cameras that captured it or the fleeing vehicles.

Any witnesses or people with information about the incident are urged to email Raduechel at raduechelr@modestogov.com or contact Stanislaus Area Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward. Tips also can be submitted via www.stancrimetips.org.
